I was conservative in counting this- especially in the scenes on the Pelennor Fields, as it is almost impossible to count accurately since so many people are ridden down, shot, stabbed, thrown trough the air and killed in other ways- at the same time. I counted very conservatively- i.e. I did only assume the minimum number of Orcs killed by the stones thrown from the walls and did not include them in the final Body count.
I decided to count the CGI Orcs ridden down by the charging Rohirim. I counted all the Orcs that were visibly ridden down or disappeared, when a Rohirim horse moved over them. Also I counted the charging Rohirim that were hit by arrows in the charge.
Regarding bodies on the field: I did not count them when they were not clearly distinguishable and in the scenes of Eowyn with the Nazgul and Theoden I only counted the dead horses and Rohirim around her once, but did not include the Orc corpses, since I had them already counted in the scenes before, where she killed them.
In the battles I counted every body that was hit by weapon and then fell over- regardless of the severity of the wound.
I stopped counting who killed whom how, as soon as the charge of the Rohirim got underway- there was enough other things to count. I hope to do that count in the future- or if someone else wants to do it :-)
