Yeah, this looks like it will be the best film of next year. Shot almost entirely in a disused warehouse, the earliest teaser trailers (only a minute long) had a body count of about 20. Plus the director is the same guy who did the excellent Dawn Of The Dead remake, which had a count of 130-something (Jen will get to it soon).

The Rodriguez section looks good from the trailer, and has got a string of actors I like. The Tarantino section... I don't like any Tarantino movies; I especially dislike his reliance on pointless dialogue scenes are neither remotely entertaining or anything like the sort of dialogue you'll hear anywhere in the real world.
But anyway, since Tarantino appears to be the world's greatest ever director and screenwriter according to every second person on the internet, I'm about to get abused for not liking "God"...

Every second person on the internet said that they were going to Snakes on a Plane and Snakes on a Train made a bigger net total...

footage from the tarantino segment havent even been released yet, he's not god, he's just good at mimicing, he takes all the good things from classic directors and genius'(john woo, sam peckinpah, walter hill, sergio leone, john frankenheimer, abel ferrara, tsui hark, ringo lam etc etc etc)and melds it all together, into...modern day classics. great soundtracks, great rapid fire dialogue and certain neo noir film style and mostly hand shot camera angles, even film has their certain flaw, but noone's perfect. stone made natural born killers, scorsece made bringing out the dead...flawed films. tarantino influenced so many modern day directors:guy ritchie, robert rodriguez, danny boyle and more. i think you also, have to be american to fully appreciate tarantinos work and his visions. i mean i watch shaun of the dead, or once were warriors, and honestly i miss stuff, things fly by my head. i can't trust a foreigners view of one of the great american directors.

That's one I've never heard before... normally it's "you can't be a movie fan or an action fan if you don't love all Tarantino films" or "if you don't like Tarantino your opinion on anything to do with films isn't valid"... never thought of it that way before though, that it's possibly a cultural thing.

And im not being mean or racist or stereotypical about it, just some things are cultural. Again i love shaun of the dead to death, but honestly i dont get 25 percent of the in jokes, the same with snatch and lock stock, with the cockney rhyming slang, the same with notable australian/new zealand movies, theres just some things that dont quite hit me. Most of the people i know, that hate tarantino, hate his movies because of 2 things. 1) camera and 2)putting himself in the movie. i like it when he puts himself in his movies, i wish he hadnt cut his parts out of jackie brown and kill bill.

the camera style isnt really unconventional(watch takishi miike movies for unconventional), his camera angles are just mainly documentary style and handheld, which makes the viewer feel as if they're there, in the scene(like all the diner scenes in pulp fiction, i could see myself eating pie in that place). and alot of his roles in his own movies arent cameos, he gives himself full fledged memorable roles and lines, he just needs to keep them in his movies.

Sorry, I've been really busy and missed this discussion. Personally I'm not much of a Tarantino fan either though I do appreciate what he is doing on film. I think he is better at vignettes than really entire films but that's just my opinion. I absolutely loved his segment in Sin City and pieces of his films are mini masterpieces but for me his entire films just fall flat. 300 looks awesome but the film I'm looking forward to in 2007 is Pathfinder... www.pathfinderthemovie.com/Don't get enough hard hitting blood thirsty barbarian films. A seriously neglected genre. Let's hope the studio does not castrate it to a PG-13.

Well, this is turning more into a disscussion of upcomeing films, so here is my list of must-see's next year: 28 Weeks Later Ghost Rider (even though it will be compleat crap ) 1408 (I'm a big SK fan, and 1408 was the scaryest story I've ever read) Pirates of the Caribbean (even though the last one was a cess-pool) 30 Days of Night (Sounds too much like Pitch Black to pass up.) Rob Zombie's Halloween American Gangster The Visiting/The Invasion. Beowulf The Golden Compass (My sister is crazy for the books, I wasn't very impressed.) 10,000 BC (Hopefuly a 'hard hitting blood thirsty barbarian film'.) Alice (I love that game.) Awake Castlevania Cell (Great book, and even though I dislike Eli Roth, it should be good) Day of the Dead Driver God of War Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (My favorit game ever , and I can't wait to see some sick parkour stunts.) Rambo IV: In the Serpent's Eye Next year is really looking up, I was rather dissapointed by the offering this year.

Good to see that not everyone loves QT but to me best director hands down, yes. I would just say that North American instead of American and I agree with Dave. My friends from Japan do not understand QT at all. They hate Kill Bill and his horrible use of Japanese dialogue and style in those films. But to limit QT to simple emulation and mimic is a definite debatable topic since as a writer he is acclaimed as well. Original scripts that borrow an element here and there, mostly as a homage to a style or director that he enjoys and respects.
Jackass2 a good movie? Dave just lost all creditability to me. That’s a shame. Drinking horse semen is not funny or worth putting on film, or You-Tube for that matter. Thats horrid. Jackass is everything wrong with modern day entertainment. This years good films for me were "The Departed" and maybe a few good foreign films "Neighbor #13" and "Fearless" while not released this year in China and Japan were put out in North America this year.
Jackass a good movie? Man that’s really hard to wrap my head around. Requiers detailed explaination.

You lost all credibility in my eyes when you're 26 and can't even spell "Jackie Brown" or "Reservoir Dogs" correctly. Ugh. Interesting retort, my spelling really does not relate to films in any sort of way. Its ok, I understand your point of view is different then mine or the next person. That is why a site like this is so amazing since we can all share in each others various interests, and expand our own and enjoy in discussion. I was only asking for more detail in explaining why you thought that "Jackass" was a good film. You seem to be an expert on films and film making, so I only wanted your insight as to how someone could appreciate a film like "Jackass" or the sub culture of "Gross Out" films and comedy. It was a platform for you to explain yourself, but by no means a demand for you to do so. If I could explain my spelling for everyone, its a very simple learning disability called "dyslexia" a learning disability affecting reading ability. Persons with dyslexia may have difficulty remembering, recognizing, and or reversing written letters, numbers, and words, might read backwards, and have poor handwriting. In my case I see most numbers and characters backwards, and so spelling is an area I often have trouble with and as you have already pointed out I often spell words incorrectly. This will continue as long as Jen allows me to post here. I will attempt to spell check my posts, and look forward to your grammar and spelling skills helping me become a better "speller" in the future. Indeed spelling skills are important, and I will continue to work on improving my spelling when posting on the site. For the record, I made a statement that the movie "Jackass" being called a good movie, lost your credibility as someone who has an intelligent understanding of films as artwork, or as cultural enrichment. You responded by finding a couple spelling errors in my previous posts, and making the statement that because I miss-spelled a few words, and names, that was enough to discredit myself as someone with that same understanding. I may have been hasty to dismiss "Jackass" and so I still hope you would share why and how it is a good film. If not I will be sure to look for other insights from you and the sort of films you enjoy. As Jen pointed out, age and spelling have nothing to do with movies, anyone can make a typo or spelling mistake.

Jen's 41? Oh god i'm going home. Bahahahah!!! I bet I've been watching films since before you were a zygote dave. Your clue should have been when I stated I saw ET first run in the theater. Actually I also saw Willy Wonka, The Cowboys, Star Wars, My Name is Nobody, Superman, Canonball Run, Raiders, Jaws... first run as well and still remember them. I was too young for all of those R flicks back then though. Still playing catch up with those. My very first R film was Beverly Hills Cop and I'll never forget it!!! I found my home.

That makes you even cooler Jen. It reminds me of the story Chris Penn(RIP) was telling about how in Reservoir Dogs his outfit for Nice Guy Eddie was just what he happend to be wearing the day he came to the set, and Quentin Tarantino thought it was the perfect outfit for Nice Guy Eddie in the film.
