Hey, I did the movie versus for you.
Versus 2000
Directed by Ryuhei Kitamura
Writing credits Ryuhei Kitamura Yudai Yamaguchi
starring Tak Sakaguchi as Prisoner KSC2-303 Hideo Sakaki as the Man, or the bad guy or whatever..
you can divide this up however you want.
total
zombies: 35(2) 11 I'm not sure of. PEOPLE: 20 monsters: 5 guys stuck to tree with barbwire: 1 guys.
Tak: 9 people 7 zombies 4 monsters Bad guy: 5 people
Theres a lot of people dieing, coming back to life, and then dying again. There are 35 zombies I'm sure of. 11 im not sure of because some of the scenes are shot wierd. like you will see someone shot a zombies and see it go of screen, then you will see a zombie bump into someone else, making it look like the zombie just shot was the onethat is bumping into the second person, if that makes sense. this happend 11 times. 20 normal people are killed, those 2 in the () things were people that were killed as normal people, came back as zombies, and were killed again. I dont know the rules for zombies, so you can count them if you want, i think i would. 5 of the normal people are killed by the main bad guy and turned into wierd super human zombie vampire people, and the main chacter kills them later. those are the monsters i have listed. also the main character is killed twice, once in the present time of the moive, then he is brought back to life, and also in a flash back of a different life 500 years ago. I counted both because he dies as a samurai 500 years ago, is reincarnated, killed again, and then brought back to life. I counted them, i think they should count. also there are a ton of zombie body parts throughout the movie. there is also a guy they find barbwired to a tree, I wasn't sure if he counted, but if he does add 1 to the people. I'm not sure how you want to divy all that up.
alltogether i would say 74 dead people, 20 killed by Tak Sakaguchi..
I'll do Battle Royale for you next, which should be a hell of a lot easier.

you can call them whatever you want. im talking about the people who are killed by the bad guy, and are brought back to life to later be killed by tak before the final showdown.

i checked again, and tak still kills 7 zombies, 1 in the first scene, he kills a guy and when he comes back as a zombie, he kills the zombie after the other 3 guys shoot it like a million times. thats 1, then there are 6 in the later zombie scene. tak comes in late, and does alot of punching, and like i said earlier its hard to get track of them all, but going shot by shot, he kills 6. altogether he kills 7 zombies. + 9 normal people and 4 of those weird super zombie vampire guys. so tak kills 20 things in the movie. so yeah i dont know what dave is talking about.

Alright - Total kills: At least 55, maybe 56... could be 58
My notes are below. The tally from the notes is 56 - but I don't know whether or not to count the first one (0:00:27) or the 12th one (0:02:55) because ONE of these is a killing of one of the guys who always comes back. Similarly, there are multiple kills throughout where good kills evil and vice versa, and where the girl dies, but they always come back, so I didn't count these.
Officially though, there are a definite 56 deaths.
I also did not count instances where a human was killed and was killed again as a zombie, as I noted - otherwise, the count would definitely be in the 70s.
0:00:27 1 (sword) 0:01:30 10 (sword - counted by dead bodies) 0:02:55 1 (sword) 0:15:22 1 (zombie death of uncounted prior human death at 12
minutes - gun) 0:16:14 1 (zombie death of uncounted prior human death @ 14
minute - gun) 0:22:25 2 (dead bodies) (hung on trees - barbed wire) 0:22:48 1 (dead body) (gunshot wound to pelvic area) 0:28:17 zombie - gun - implied/more shots fired 28:38 0:29:45 flying zombie - gun 0:30:03 zombie - gun 0:30:45 zombie - gun 0:31:00 zombie - gun 0:31:11 zombie - gun 0:32:32 zombie - gun 0:32:40 zombie - gun stab 0:32:46 zombie - gunshot/intenstines spill out 0:32:48 zombie - machine gun 0:32:55 zombie - gun 0:33:09 zombie - knife throat slash 0:33:12 zombie - gun 0:33:20 zombie - power kick 0:33:30 zombie - power kick/zombie slides down hill hits
several trees 0:33:36 zombie - array of punches/smashes face into tree 0:33:41 zombie - double guns 0:33:55 zombie - kicks head off 0:34:20 2 zombies shoot each other/drop dead 0:34:26 zombie - two gun shots 0:34:35 2 zombies - punches/kicks/stabs/thrown 0:34:48 zombie - shotgun 0:34:53 2 zombies - 1 guy fires 2 guns at both/splatters them 0:35:00 2 zombies die/fly through air & hit ground 0:35:11 zombie - gun 0:53:15 human in car - gunshot to face 1:00:40 zombie - head ripped into by arm/brains completely
oblitered... nice camera shot through the back of head showing
teeth 1:05:36 zombie - car runs into body / cuts body in half 1:31:06 zombie - machine gun 1:32:07 zombie - sword slash / body split in half and then diced
into a fine bloody mist of body parts which literally go flying here
and there 1:33:00 zombie girl - two shotgun blasts/rips hole through
stomach/blood squirting everywhere 1:36:30 another girl (zombie?) - apparently dies/implied death
coughs up a ton of blood and falls over dead/they referance her
death 1:39:08 spider zombie/green shirt/burrowing/crawling dude -
cannon/completely blown apart 1:40:30 human driver (one missing hand) - cannon shot through
head 1:40:45 other human driver (his partner) - cannon/explodes him
upon impact (same gun/it's like a mini-cannon... one minute it's a
sniper rifle, the next it's explosion... whatever)

A little off, i did count already dead bodies, and the kills from the flashbacks, because they were different people who were reincarnated, and my version adds just kill after kill after kill, JenGe when you get a chance check out the Ultimate Version, it seems Kurt Wimmer stole quite of bit for Equilibrium, you'll be impressed.

I was watching the R1 SE (2-disc) which is the Director's Cut - but not the 'Ultimate Versus' version which is 130 minutes. The Director's Cut is 120 minutes and the theatrical is 115.
They do so many cut-aways that I was counting the bare-minimum of kills. The count could easily be 60-70 in the Director's Cut.

I've seen it and didn't care for it not because it isn't a good film. I just cannot find any redeaming value or enjoyment in zombie flicks. Well, except for Army of Darkness.

you can call them whatever you want. im talking about the people who are killed by the bad guy, and are brought back to life to later be killed by tak before the final showdown. Great work here on the detailed counts, this is a difficult film to do a count for. Just for the record, those are called "Hyper Zombies" or "Super Zombies" the direct Japanese translation is not really a word in english. So "hyper" is the best translation.
