Basic Counting Guidelines... « Thread Started on Nov 28, 2005, 8:43pm »
Simple Guideline...
- Can you see a dead body plainly? count it - Can you see a mortal hit? count it - Did someone die on screen? count it - Was a scene shown and then at the last second "cut away?" count it - Use an offically released director's, extended, or unrated cut of a film over theatrical releases. No bootleg/leaked versions please. - Only count wide and limited released films (US, Worldwide, or native country). No TV movies, shows, or straight to DVD/video!!!
- Anything else is extra and/or misc. (planes, ships, houses, planets...) and is really only for fun but not necessary.
1. The "body counts" for this site are mostly "on screen kills/deaths" or fatal/critical/mortal shots/hits of human, humanoid, or creatures (ie monsters, aliens, zombies.) The rule of thumb is "do they bleed" which will leave the concept of cyborgs somewhat open and decided per film. The human and creature counts should be separate. These will be added together for a final tally.
Note on non-hominoid/animals - In films such as animations where animal/robots have the ability to speak their kills will sometimes be considered in the counts since they are "characters" to the story. This will be decided on a film by film basis.
2. Unspecified/displayed bodies (one's that do not actually have an "on screen" hit)
do not count - unspecified piles or strewn "bodies" (ie-war films) unless they are clear and countable (head shots). These will be noted though in the misc. section.
do count Any unspecified but clearly shown "displayed" bodies (IE crucifixions, hangings...)
3. Ships, buildings, vehicles ect can be counted but unless an "on screen kill/hit/death" is shown to a "body" it will not be added in the final "body count tally". A Miscellaneous count will be added to the page for these. It is entirely optional to count any such.
4. Counts of kills by main characters will be added to the pages.
5. Animals: Depending on their type of death and their significance to the plot or main characters they will not be counted except under "Miscellaneous."
6. Implied Kills...
- do not count if they are only talked about. Where nothing at all is shown in the film. Also photos of dead bodies do not count.
- do count where everything is shown up until the final blow, fall, shot... These are called "cut aways." An example is the opening scene in Jurassic Park. If you look really closely at that sequence it actually shows nothing in the way of a "death" but it is clearly though "implied" that it is through editing.
7. Specify which cut of a film you are doing (theatrical, directors...) but please use an officially released extended/unrated/director's cut when available.

sorry jenge, been busy with finals and such ive got one question about the guide lines
how much information do you want us to collect on a single movie?>
No problem...I've been busy with Christmas stuff and a house full of sick kids.
All I really need from you guys is the body count of the film and the main characters/actors. You can "break it down" if you want you but you don't have to.
Here to make it simple...
can you see a dead body plainly? count it can you see a mortal hit? count it Did someone die on screen? count it Was a scene shown and then at the last minute "cut away?" count it
Anything else is extra and/or misc. (planes, ships...) and is really only for fun but not necessary.
1-If a zombie is seen eating a human, does that count as a kill?
Yes, unless that human comes back as a zombie. One person can only be counted as one death. Not twice as a human & a zombie. They are still the same character whether human or undead. Their final "death" is the count.

2-Zombies and the posessed(see Evil Dead) take 2 forms, and most of the time die twice. They die once in human form and then once in zombie/posessed form. Therefore when a character is killed we count one kill for human form and one kill for zombie/posessed form.
No, a character can only be counted once since the first time he did not really die.

Being that while in zombie/posessed form the character takes a different mind set and acts differently(i think this is the problem with the Versus count). When i did army of darkness you can see that i noted, Alive Evil Ash and Dead Evil Ash. So just as a suggestion i think this is how we should count it.
Duel identities showing two different people/characters can be counted twice as in Fight Club so Evil Ash's death would count.

3-When an inanimate object (or other thing) comes to life, and a character kills it, i think we should count that as a kill. Example, in evil dead II, ash chops his own hand off, it becomes posessed and starts attacking him, and trying to kill him throughout most of the movie, he then finally kills it, this would result in a kill.
I don't think so since it is not really a "character" but it is something that can be added to the "Misc" count.

4-What is the policy for animals? Does it go into the final kill count or is it just misc? Example would be Alice killing the zombie dogs in Resident Evil.
5. Animals: Depending on their type of death and their significance to the plot or main characters they will not be counted except under "Miscellaneous."
