I was conservative in counting this- especially in the scenes on the Pelennor Fields, as it is almost impossible to count accurately since so many people are ridden down, shot, stabbed, thrown trough the air and killed in other ways- at the same time. I counted very conservatively- i.e. I did only assume the minimum number of Orcs killed by the stones thrown from the walls and did not include them in the final Body count.

I decided to count the CGI Orcs ridden down by the charging Rohirim. I counted all the Orcs that were visibly ridden down or disappeared, when a Rohirim horse moved over them. Also I counted the charging Rohirim that were hit by arrows in the charge.

Regarding bodies on the field: I did not count them when they were not clearly distinguishable and in the scenes of Eowyn with the Nazgul and Theoden I only counted the dead horses and Rohirim around her once, but did not include the Orc corpses, since I had them already counted in the scenes before, where she killed them.

In the battles I counted every body that was hit by weapon and then fell over- regardless of the severity of the wound.

I stopped counting who killed whom how, as soon as the charge of the Rohirim got underway- there was enough other things to count. I hope to do that count in the future- or if someone else wants to do it :-)

Yes, please do!!! The entire breakdown is there.

Also note that it is the "extended edition" so it has a large advantage over other films. The slaughter can go on for hours...

Another thing to remember is that most of the kills are cgi orcs...

Hobbits: 2
Humans: 147
Uruk-hai and Orcs: 524
Trolls: 2
Rohirim: 123
Sauthrons: 32
Nazguls: 6

Should CGI kills even count?

Shouldn't we just be counting balls to the walls kills, mostly by humans...

Because action nuts like myself and wheels are dying over here

We need to count CGI kills (for example, the majority of deaths in a lot of modern horror films are CGI), unless the type of character/being that gets killed never appears in anything other than CGI, but I'm skeptical about animal deaths. My LOTR knowledge is a little rusty, so I'm not sure which ones we'd classify as human/non-human if we relax the definition of human a little. Therefore, we need take out the deaths of Nazguls, if they're the flying-winged things that I think they are...

Well, I've thought about this and I think I'll need to make up several different "Top" charts...CGI free...non extended editions...

I feel like I'm hanycapping a racehorse. :-/

Even if we did it still would be #1 by a long shot just by the orcs alone.

Sure it's still more than three times the count of the next nearest film that isn't 3½ hours long, and based on a world with creatures that don't exactly exist, but if you're going to count Nazguls, you've gotta count all the dragon thingies in Reign Of Fire, the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park etc...

I don't think anyone needs to worry about the whole "Nazgul" thing, because -- contrary to popular belief -- the Nazguls are not the flying dragon-type things, they are the weird "kings-of-old" things...

You know, in the FotR, one of them stabbed Frodo and demanded Arwen to "Give us the halfling, she-elf!" and in this movie, the Nazgul leader (the Witch-king) said to Eowyn, "You fool! No man can kill me. Die now!"

So technically, the Nazgul are humanoid...

Thanks for clearing that up and welcome to the site!!! I would say the "speaking" would certainly be a major point. Drake would have to count in Dragonheart (I can't remember now if he died or not though :-/) .

i did a body count (including cgi, of screen deaths, animals, NAZGUL, ect. extended version) and got over 100,000

b/c there were about 300,000 orcs at the seige of gondor and AT LEAST a 1/3 or more were killed also include the 15,000+ orcs killed at the black gate when the ground broke open so mabye more like

150,000+ not 800+

No, this is on-screen kills, not statistical kills, so while there may have been 100000 deaths in a given battle, they don't count if you didn't see them

Please read the site's Guidelines for Counts before you go post at the hip. ::)

Also disputes belong on the disputes board and not in these threads.

Thanks, Management
